K-3 Golf & Me

EPIC for Girls and EgoFree Golf are disrupting the game of golf by providing a pathway for young girls of color to be successful on the course and reap the benefits of golf.

Studies show, young women and girls of color playing or working in sport are significantly overlooked when it comes to investment and support and are a marginalized group that would benefit the most when provided equitable access to the benefits that participation in sport provides for individuals, teams, and communities.  EPIC exists to ensure girls of color have equal access, resources, and safe playing spaces.

The golf course has predominantly been a place reserved white men with access to financial resources. It wasn’t until 1961 that the PGA removed the Caucasian-only clause and 1996 that the first African American woman was elected to the PGA. This program will directly contribute to a more diverse and inclusive experience for attendees and sends a message to young girls of color that they can and will be welcomed on the golf course (or any sport).

The setting will be kept light, fun, and engaging and be hosted 1x/week, throughout the school year with possible field trips to private clubs. EPIC’s goal is to match these young girls with women golfers and private country club
members so the immersion into the culture of golf continues on an informal basis.
